Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), and their joint-venture entity GAC Toyota are ramping up their electric vehicle (EV) development with support from innovative technology companies, to increase their total technological corporateity – confirmed at the 2025 Technological Event outlining Toyota’s strong commitment of smart mobility and cleaner transportation.

Collaboration with Huawei, Xiaomi, and Momenta
Toyota will collaborate with tech giants Huawei and Xiaomi, and also AI and driver assistance expert Momenta. The collaboration will help develop vehicle software, connectivity, and smart features, on behalf of the company’s forthcoming EVs.
Two New Energy Vehicle Platforms
Toyota introduced two new platforms for electric vehicles
- The first platform is designed for compact to medium-sized electric cars, showcased in the bZ3X model. This platform focuses on maximizing space and technology efficiency.
- The second platform supports several energy types, such as full battery electric vehicles (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and range-extended electric vehicles (REEV). It allows for larger vehicles, up to 5,300 mm in length. The first vehicle on this platform will be the premium bZ7 sedan and it will feature more advanced LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. The bZ7 is planned for launch in March 2026.
Hybrid Technology Advancements
Toyota is also rapidly advancing its hybrid technology. The fifth-generation Hybrid Dual Engine Intelligent System is already in use, with the sixth-generation system in development. Additionally, a new high-performance PHEV system is set to debut in 2027 on models like the Sienna and Highlander in China.

Smart Connectivity and AI Integration
Xiaomi will support smart device integration in Toyota’s cars, including smart speakers and display screens, helping to connect vehicles to the growing AIoT ecosystem.
Huawei’s contribution includes integrating its Harmony OS 5.0 with Kirin chips and 15.6-inch infotainment screens. This integration will enhance the in-car digital experience and ensure smooth compatibility with other digital devices.
Momenta will provide advanced driver assistance features with nearly 50 new functions, first applied in the bZ3X model. This will improve driving safety and convenience.

These cooperation and innovation are an important step for Toyota in advancing environmentally friendly vehicles. Mixing strong motor vehicle engineering with state -of -the -art technology, Toyota aims to offer smarter, safe and more efficient electric and hybrid cars for the Indonesian market and beyond.
