At the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, MG Motor unveiled a bold push towards ultra-efficient and long-range vehicles. SAIC Motor International Co. Ltd. Managing Director Cui Weiguo has confirmed the brand’s strategy of making all new models — hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and electric (EV) vehicles — significantly more energy-efficient.

Key Points
- HEV: Less than 4L/100 km (over 25 km/l) fuel consumption goal.
- PHEV: More than 200 km of electric-only range, with total range of up to 2,000 km.
- EV: Target over 1,000 km driving range per charge.
- Solid-State Batteries: Production starts in 2027, with higher energy density and improved safety.

What Cui Weiguo Said
Cui emphasized that MG’s approach is one of best-in-class efficiency across all technologies. He noted:
- For HEVs, MG has a target for fuel consumption of less than 4 liters per 100 km.
- For PHEVs, MG plans 200 km of pure electric driving.
- For EVs, MG aims at more than 1,000 km between charges.
For solid-state batteries, Cui promised they would have an energy density of over 400 Wh/kg, better cold-temperature performance (retaining 90% capacity at low temperature), better safety, and less cost — a step that he claimed would be a game-changer for the auto business.
Highlight Features
- Energy-Efficient Hybrid and Plug-ins: Best for drivers who need flexibility for driving in the city and on the highway.
- Range EVs of 1,000 km: Ideal for commuters traveling long distances and those concerned about charging stations.
- Next-Generation Solid-State Batteries: Safer, charge faster, longer life, and less expensive to make than current lithium-ion batteries.

Conclusion
MG Motor’s new vision, which is supported by strong ambitions and technological progress, is set to redefine its position in the mobility of the future. With its provision of a wide variety of efficient hybrids, extended-range plug-in hybrids, and ultra-range electric vehicles, MG is aiming to be a contender in Indonesian and global markets. Being supplemented by solid-state battery technology in 2027 could well cement its leadership of the EV game even further.
