PT Garuda Mataram Motor, the APM of Volkswagen in Indonesia, has finally brought this All-Electric ID. Buzz to Surabaya after its success during GIIAS Jakarta last July. This full-electric luxury MPV can accommodate six passengers, boasting an extended wheelbase for giving extra luggage space- a hint at the seriousness of VW in the EV market in Indonesia. The All-Electric ID. Buzz will go on sale in November, marking a significant milestone in Indonesia’s era of electrification.
The All-Electric ID. Buzz is more than just a vehicle; it’s a symbol of Volkswagen’s dedication to supporting the Indonesian government’s goal of achieving emission-free mobility.

Legacy and Heritage
The All-Electric ID. Buzz is the modern follow-up to the iconic Volkswagen microbus, when it first landed in Indonesia with the VW Type 2 (T1) in the 1950s. This was followed by the model known as Kombi from the late 1960s into the mid-1980s, a true cultural icon in the country. The popularity of Kombi sparked the formation of the Volkswagen Van Club, in 1981, which still exists today and is very active with hundreds of members across generations of Kombis. Along with this, the car maker continued with models such as the T4s (Caravelle), a few of which served as an official vehicle during the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1992, later with the T5 and T6 generations, comes the fully electric ID. Buzz.
Technological Advancements
German-made vehicles are recognized for their advanced technology that is always infused with a rage for safety and comfort on the road. For his part, Badawi Marhasan, Head of Sales at Volkswagen Indonesia, maintained that this model applies leading German technology, hence further consolidating the long-term commitment of VW towards the Indonesian automotive market. The All-Electric ID. Buzz is more than just a vehicle; it’s an initiative by Volkswagen to commit to and support the Indonesian government‘s goals for emission-free mobility.
Market Introduction and Programs
The introduction of the All-Electric ID. Buzz in Surabaya is part of the broader strategy of VW to reach out to Indonesian consumers and expand electric vehicle adoption in the country. During GIIAS Surabaya, Volkswagen also introduced other models, such as the Tiguan Allspace. In support of such purchases, VW Indonesia had prepared special programs for the visitors of the event-including 0% installment plans for up to three years when buying a Tiguan Allspace.
