BYD takes the lead as of March 2025, with multiple models occupying the top spots in the list of best-selling EVs. The information below is derived from wholesale sales data, which indicates factory distributions to dealers based on Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) reports.

    • BYD’s Domination: Chinese brand BYD is at the front with its best selling models which also include its luxury sub brand Denza which takes the number one spot.
    • Electric MPVs and SUVs Growing: We see that the trend of electric MPVs and SUVs is increasing which is true for vehicles like the Denza D9, BYD M6 and Sealion 7 which are doing very well.
    • Chery and Wuling’s Rise: Also other Chinese players in the game like Chery and Wuling are doing great with their electric SUVs and city cars which are performing very well.

    1. Denza D9
      • Sales: 1,587 units
      • BYD’s luxury brand Denza claims the top spot with its premium MPV. The D9 has generated a lot of interest, showcasing both performance and luxury in the EV market.
    2. BYD M6
      • Sales: 1,293 units
      • The BYD M6 electric MPV continues to be a popular choice, making it one of the highest-selling models in Indonesia.
    3. BYD Sealion 7
      • Sales: 1,182 units
      • This new 5-seater electric SUV from BYD launched in February 2025, and quickly gained traction in the market.
    4. Chery J6 (iCar 03)
      • Sales: 987 units
      • The Chery J6, a boxy electric SUV, has made a significant impact, offering consumers another great option in the EV segment.
    5. Aion Hyptec
      • Sales: 886 units
      • Aion has seen a remarkable increase in sales, with a 503.1% rise from February 2025, marking a huge leap in popularity.
    6. Wuling Air EV
      • Sales: 471 units
      • The Wuling Air EV remains a strong contender in the compact electric car segment, especially in urban areas.
    7. Wuling BinguoEV
      • Sales: 468 units
      • Another popular model from Wuling, the BinguoEV offers affordable electric mobility for Indonesian consumers.
    8. BYD Atto 3
      • Sales: 388 units
      • The BYD Atto 3 is a well-rounded electric SUV that continues to appeal to a wide range of customers.
    9. Wuling Cloud EV
      • Sales: 266 units
      • The Wuling Cloud EV, while smaller in volume, is still a noteworthy model in the affordable EV category.
    10. BYD Seal
      • Sales: 234 units
      • The BYD Seal, a more budget-friendly sedan model, rounds out the top 10 with steady sales.

    • AION’s Significant Growth: AION, another Chinese brand, has seen an exceptional growth rate, increasing sales by 503.1% in March compared to February 2025. It sold 959 units in March, compared to just 159 units the month before.
    • Hyundai Kona’s Limited Sales: Despite the global popularity of the Hyundai Kona, it did not make it into the top 10 best-selling electric cars in Indonesia. Hyundai’s Kona, the most affordable EV from the South Korean brand, managed to sell just 37 units in March 2025.
