Jakarta — Hyundai is adding the Ioniq 9 to its lineup of electric vehicles (EV) in Indonesia in the near future. This was confirmed by PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia on February 24, 2025.

Hyundai’s EV Plans in Indonesia
“We are excited by the interest of Indonesian consumers in our electric cars, including the Ioniq 9. Because of this, we plan to introduce the car in Indonesia,” said Ju Hun Lee, President Director of Hyundai Motors Indonesia.
This launch show indicates Hyundai’s position in matters of providing eco friendly cars in order to respond to increasing demand for EV’s in Indonesia.
What Is the Ioniq 9?
Ioniq 9 is an electric SUV with a shared platform by the Kia EV9. The Ioniq 9 is a large vehicle with 385 miles (620 kilometers) driving range per full charge. There will be options for buyers of Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
This large range makes the Ioniq 9 perfect for long drives, offering both style and performance.
Supporting Indonesia’s Green Goals
In the same statement Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, of the Chief Operating Officer for PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia talked about how Hyundai is supporting the goal that is set forth by Indonesia to be capable of reaching a net zero emissions target by in 2050. He went on further to highlight that Hyundai are looking at both electric vehicles as well as infrastructure which is required to support the creation of a sustainable EV ecosystem.
“We are building infrastructure so that the EV ecosystem can grow and become sustainable,” he said.

Indonesian Global Debut and Indonesian Plans
The Ioniq 9 was launched globally in November 2024 and in South Korea on February 13, 2025. Although Hyundai has not released a date for its launch in Indonesia, the increasing number of Hyundai EVs indicates that it will be here soon.
Hyundai’s EV Success in Indonesia
Hyundai started its EV journey in Indonesia with the Kona Electric in 2020, followed by the Ioniq 5 in 2022 and the Ioniq 6 in 2023. They also launched the Ioniq 5 N, a high-performance EV.
Investing in EV Infrastructure
Hyundai has invested USD 3 billion in Indonesia, including the building of the HLI battery cell factory, which plays a key role in the EV supply chain.
