Tangerang – PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) is set to make a bold statement with the launch of their latest model, the All-New Kona Electric, at the upcoming 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
Modern Appearance and Enhanced Features
Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of HMID, expressed immense confidence in the All-New Kona Electric during the event “Media First Impressions: The All-New Kona Electric” held at Aloha, Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2, Tangerang, on Friday, July 12, 2024. Soerjopranoto highlighted that the electric car‘s modern appearance and comprehensive features are key factors bolstering Hyundai’s confidence.
“We launched the All-New Kona Electric with a better appearance and more complete features, so we feel more confident,” Soerjopranoto stated. “With several features that we have informed, consumers can feel confident in ordering the vehicle, and this makes us confident in launching the All-New Kona Electric at GIIAS.”
Anticipated Pricing and Market Strategy
While the price of the All-New Kona Electric is rumored to be around IDR 500 million, Hyundai has yet to reveal the official price. Soerjopranoto hinted at a surprise regarding the official pricing, adding an element of anticipation for potential buyers.
“Regarding the price, there will be a surprise from Hyundai later,” he teased.
Growing Acceptance of Electric Cars
A significant driver behind Hyundai’s renewed focus on electric vehicles in Indonesia is the growing acceptance of electric cars among the public. Fransiscus Soerjopranoto pointed out that concerns about electric vehicles (EVs) have significantly decreased since 2019. Back then, potential buyers worried about charging infrastructure, battery safety, and service availability. However, these concerns have been largely addressed in recent years.
“In 2019, people still had many concerns, starting from where to charge it, how is the battery, then whether it is safe or not, and then how is the service,” he explained. “If you look at it lately, it’s like mobile phones. Mobile phones don’t think about how much they’re going to be sold for. Then there’s no negative news about the battery, and the range is also getting further.”
The Future of Electric Vehicles in Indonesia
Soerjopranoto emphasized that as more people adopt electric vehicles, the market for such cars will continue to grow. He noted that the initial concerns about EVs are fading, especially as more products are introduced and support systems improve.
“Some things that were previously a concern have been covered up, especially since more and more products are being introduced and automatically more and more supporters,” he concluded.
