An Exciting Month for the Indonesian Automotive Market
The Indonesian automotive industry has seen a flurry of new car releases despite a sluggish market since the start of the year. The end of the first semester of 2024 marked a significant point, with manufacturers introducing a variety of new models to the Indonesian market. In June 2024 alone, five new cars were launched, showcasing a mix of conventional internal combustion engines (ICE) and innovative electric vehicles. These new models come from well-known brands such as Hyundai, Chery, GAC AION, and Mercedes-Benz.
Hyundai Palisade XRT
The Hyundai Palisade XRT stands out as a premium SUV, officially launched on June 1, 2024. As the highest variant in the Palisade lineup, it features numerous exterior upgrades to enhance its robust appearance. Key exterior enhancements include the XRT Exclusive Front Lower Bumper, Rear Lower Bumper, Dark Roof Rack/Rail, 20-inch Dark Wheels, Lower Door Garnish, and Liftgate Badge.
The interior of the Palisade XRT mirrors the luxury of its predecessor, offering advanced features such as ventilated and heated seats in both the front and second rows, a 12.3-inch TFT Color Touch Display Audio system, Infinity Premium Sound System with 12 speakers, wireless smartphone charging, and six USB-C ports. The vehicle is also equipped with Hyundai’s Smartsense safety package, which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Blind Spot View Monitor (BVW), Surround View Monitor (SVM), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), High Beam Assist, and Safe Exit Assist (SEA).
Under the hood, the Palisade XRT features a 2.2 L CRDI in-line 4-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine delivers a maximum power of 200 ps at 3,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 440 Nm at 1,750-2,750 rpm, ensuring efficient fuel consumption and optimal driving performance. The Palisade XRT offers four driving modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Smart, catering to various driving needs.
The Palisade XRT is available in several exterior colours, including Creamy White Pearl, Moonlight Blue Pearl, Abyss Black Pearl, Graphite Gray Metallic, and Shimmering Silver Metallic. Interior colour options include Black & Burgundy and Dark Navy & Warm Grey. The Palisade Signature 2WD XRT is priced at Rp. 1,079 billion, while the AWD XRT variant is priced at IDR 1,215 billion.
Chery Tiggo 5X
The Chery Tiggo 5X is the next notable release in June 2024. Adding to the Tiggo family, which includes the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro, the Tiggo 5X was first introduced at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in February. PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) launched the Tiggo 5X officially in June, offering a compelling combination of power, technology, and design.
The Tiggo 5X is powered by a 1.5L VVT engine that produces 113 ps of power and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). This combination ensures optimal performance and driving stability. According to CSI’s internal tests, the Tiggo 5X boasts a fuel efficiency of 13.5 km/ltr, achieved under both toll and non-toll road conditions.
The Tiggo 5X has advanced features, including an Electric Sunroof, 360-degree camera, 10.25-inch touchscreen, Auto Speed Adjust Front Wiper, Rear Parking Sensors, and Keyless Entry with Push Button Start. Its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) includes Lane Departure, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Intelligent High-beam Control Headlamp. Passive safety features include seat belts and six airbags in the front and side.
The exterior of the Tiggo 5X features elegant and aerodynamic curves, with a front grille inspired by a tiger’s face, giving it a strong and dignified appearance—the luxurious interior, with high-quality materials creates a comfortable and premium cabin atmosphere.
The Chery Tiggo 5X is available in two variants: Champion and Classic. The Champion variant offers four exterior color options—Silver Granite, Red Ruby, White Howlite, and Black Platinum—while the Classic variant comes in White Howlite and Black Platinum. The Champion and Classic variants are priced at IDR 269 million and IDR 239 million, respectively, for the first 1,000 orders. After this quota is met, prices will increase by IDR 10 million, to IDR 279 million for the Champion variant and IDR 249 million for the Classic variant.
