The Honda StepWGN, one of the exciting hybrids sold overseas, stunned everyone last July at the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) organized by PT Honda Prospect Motor or HPM. Public interest in this MPV has been nothing short of spectacular. With a large interior, good design, and much-sought hybrid, StepWGN now grabs one of the top places at the height of anticipation for vehicles in Indonesia.
Maybe the last (survey) at GIIAS Semarang next week, then we will finish it and evaluate it because the interest is very high in Indonesia
Yusak Billy, PT HPM Sales & Marketing Director
Even though the excitement seems to be highly raised, Honda has also made no official announcement regarding its release date for StepWGN in Indonesia. GIIAS participants in attendance had to keep wondering when it would be possible for them to finally get hold of such a versatile vehicle.
Survey Stage Continues
According to Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of PT HPM, StepWGN is still in the stage of market surveys. Though the GIIAS event has given good insights to Honda, its final stage will be held during GIIAS Semarang from 23rd October to 27th October. Thereafter, Honda will assess what it could get from the feedback and decide if it should enter the Indonesian market or not.
“Perhaps the last (survey) at GIIAS Semarang next week, then we will complete it and assess it since public interest is very high in Indonesia,” Billy said during a media interview in Jakarta on 19th October 2024.
The final assessment would also determine whether the StepWGN would officially be sold in the country because the company balances the high interests of the public with logistics and bringing this model into Indonesia.

Public Demand Increases
Billy also mentioned that several interested buyers approached him and asked when the car would be available, saying that they were so eager to see the vehicle driving around the roads of Indonesia. However, PT HPM has not announced an exact date for launching the car. “They asked when it is launched, but we already said we cannot afford it yet,” Billy added, summarizing the cautious approach Honda will take before finally announcing the date of launching the car.
Billy gathered from the surveys conducted so far that Indonesian customers perceive the Honda StepWGN as something that should start from IDR 500-699 million. There is immense value they find in the vehicle’s features and its technology, which makes a stronger case for the product in the Indonesian market.
Competitors and Market Position
One of the closest competitors of Honda StepWGN is certainly Toyota Voxy and Nissan Serena, which are the most popular models in the MPV Japanese market. It may be added that StepWGN has a quite minimalistic design and can be placed apart from all models of Honda’s MPVs. Among them are Freed or more expensive Odyssey.
By design, the StepWGN has a practical yet stylishly presented look with spoilers on the front and sides, thus having both form and function.
Interior and Features
Inside the StepWGN comes loaded with lots of features tailored towards the needs of the family. This makes it a perfect MPV for day-to-day commutes or long journeys, such as those undertaken during road trips. Key features include:
- 11.4-inch floating infotainment screen for driver and passengers.
- 15-inch screen at the rear for passengers; highly useful to engage kids during a trip.
- Captain seats in the second row for comfort and luxury of those sitting in the back.
- Footrest at the bottom of the seats in the second row for a long trip.
All these features ensure that the Honda StepWGN provides comfort with a luxurious experience for passengers. It is made for families who want ample space, comfort, and also a lot of convenience with proper entertainment.
Performance and Engine
Under the bonnet, the Honda StepWGN is powered by a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine in combination with Honda‘s innovative e
hybrid system. The maximum power generated is about 143 horsepower and up to 315 Nm of torque. The engine is matched with an e-CVT transmission that sends power to the front wheels.
One of the most notable advantages of the Honda StepWGN is its fuel efficiency. Honda reports that the StepWGN can maximize up to 17 km/liter, and as an MPV with this capacity, it is worth a buy for families who just want to take their loved ones on long, easy trips while not belling out every cent. Waiting for the Final Decision
At least, interest in the Honda StepWGN is extremely high. Now, their wait has been waiting to be answered for one last time during the final phase of surveys at GIIAS Semarang.
