Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chery’s Indonesian distributor, PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), is gearing up for a major reveal at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024. The event, slated for July, promises to be an exciting showcase of Chery’s latest automotive innovations. Among the highlights is the much-anticipated launch of the Jaecoo lineup and a new 7 seater SUV designed specifically for the Indonesian market.
The Grand Launch of Jaecoo
Chery’s Jaecoo series will take center stage at GIIAS 2024. The lineup, which includes Jaecoo 6, Jaecoo 7, Jaecoo 8, and Jaecoo 9, will be exhibited to the public for the first time in Indonesia. These models represent the flagship offerings from Chery in the global market. Although they will not be immediately available for sale, their exhibition is expected to generate significant interest and anticipation among automotive enthusiasts.
Introducing the Seven-Passenger SUV
According to Rifkie Setiawan, Head of Brand Department at PT CSI, Chery will unveil a new seven-passenger SUV that has been specially developed for the Indonesian market. “We will see it together at GIIAS 2024. We have formulated this product specifically for the Indonesian market, which is interesting, the seven-passenger SUV segment,” Setiawan stated.
Speculations suggest that this new model could be the Chery Tiggo 9, the latest and most advanced addition to the Tiggo series, which includes the Tiggo 5, Tiggo 7, and Tiggo 8 models already available in Indonesia.
Chery Tiggo 9: A New Benchmark
The Chery Tiggo 9 is built on the new M3X platform, which the manufacturer describes as being inspired by outer space elements. The ‘M’ stands for Mars, symbolizing exploration, while ‘3’ denotes the core intelligence and flexibility of the platform, and ‘X’ signifies Chery’s commitment to continuous innovation.
The Tiggo 9 measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,699 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. These dimensions make it competitive with other large SUVs such as the Hyundai Palisade and Mazda CX-9. The interior layout offers a 2+3+2 seating configuration, providing ample space for passengers.
Under the hood, the Tiggo 9 features a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a turbocharger, producing 261 horsepower (hp) and a peak torque of 400 Newton meters (Nm). The power is distributed to all four wheels (AWD), ensuring robust performance and handling.
The Tiggo 9 also boasts advanced technology, including a panoramic sunroof, a large integrated head unit and meter panel, auto flush door handles, and LED lighting. Additionally, it is equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety.
Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max: An Alternative Highlight
If the Tiggo 9 is not the model to be launched, Chery might introduce the Tiggo 8 Pro Max. This model shares similar dimensions with the Tiggo 8 Pro, measuring 4,772 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,705 mm in height. The Tiggo 8 Pro Max stands out with distinct exterior features such as unique rim designs, an illuminated emblem, and an automatic footstep.
The Tiggo 8 Pro Max is powered by a 2.0L Turbo petrol engine delivering 250 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and operates on a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system. Like the Tiggo 9, it also comes with a complete ADAS package.
Currently, PT CSI offers the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro at IDR 528.5 million for the Luxury variant and IDR 558.5 million for the Premium variant in Jakarta.
CSI’s Strategic Vision
The unveiling at GIIAS 2024 aligns with Chery’s broader strategy to expand its market presence in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. By introducing models tailored to local preferences and conditions, Chery aims to capture a significant share of the burgeoning SUV market in the region.
Rifkie Setiawan emphasized the significance of the GIIAS 2024 event for Chery, stating, “This is a pivotal moment for us to showcase our commitment to the Indonesian market. The new seven-passenger SUV, along with the Jaecoo lineup, reflects our dedication to delivering innovative and high-quality vehicles to our customers.”
