The Indonesian Electric Mobility Association is the leading force in the country for greater adoption of electric vehicles. Having some major players in energy, batteries, and EV infrastructure as its members, it aims to promote the growth of a strong EV ecosystem in Indonesia. Guided by three broad pillars—supply, demand, and enablers—systematically, AEML works to transform transportation in Indonesia.
Supply: Building the EV Market
AEML has been focusing on the supply side of the electric vehicle market. The Association works on EV manufacturing encouragement to ensure diversity in vehicles for growing demand. Opening up avenues for local manufacturers, AEML innovates to make electric vehicles more accessible to the common people. This approach will help fashion a sustainable and independent EV industry in Indonesia.
Demand: Riding on Synergistic Adoption
The demand side—AEML is working in close conjunction with the government to ensure smooth adoption of electric vehicles, such as working on policies incentivizing EV purchases by way of tax breaks, subsidies, and other financial benefits. AEML will align its efforts with the government initiatives and make EVs more attractive for consumers to buy; hence, their adoption rate will grow manifold.
Enablers: Infrastructure, Financing, and Regulation
Among the most critical dimensions of AEML’s enabling strategy is factor development, including regulations, infrastructure, and financing. The association realizes that one of the more important conditions that will lead to large-scale popularization of EVs is promoting a comprehensive EV infrastructure in terms of charging stations and battery swap facilities. Further, AEML is working toward securing financing options for EV owners at affordable rates. Besides influencing regulations that will support the EV ecosystem for a stable and predictable market environment, the association is engaged in doing the same.
Public Education: Raising Awareness and Encouraging Participation
AEML has strong emphasis on public awareness as one of the means to increase EV usage. It engages with the public through social media campaigns and direct outreach to current and potential electric vehicle users, actively conducting various activities for the same. AEML tries to influence consumer perception toward EVs by informing the general public about their advantages, including lower operating costs, environmental sustainability, and convenience.
National EV Battery Standards
AEML is, among others, currently developing national standards for electric vehicle batteries. In cooperation with the National Standardization Agency—BSN—a tough safety and performance standard for EV batteries will become a reality. “It’s not without reason that maintaining the high standards of the batteries is one of the preconditions for ensuring reliability and durability concerning electric vehicles,” said Rian Ernerst, Secretary General of AEML. It sets a standard for customers in the EV market to build their trust and confidence.
