PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), which officially opened the Karawang Assembly Plant 2, drenched in the splendid industrial zone of Surya Cipta located in East Karawang, West Java, proudly does so in a more contemporary fashion. The facility supported by modern manufacturing technology emphasizes energy saving and higher productivity aimed to reduce carbon footprint. Also, from what industry insiders tell us, this new plant’s output is 20% greener compared to conventional plants.

Eco-Friendly and Advanced Manufacturing
Using the Evolution, Simple, Slim, Compact (E-SSC) concept, ADM has created a lean, flexible, and environmentally friendly production system. This approach prepares the factory for future challenges in the automotive industry.
The factory was inaugurated with the presence of Indonesia’s Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, and Japan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasushi Masaki. Also attending were key industry leaders, including Daihatsu Motor Co. President Masahiro Inoue, PT Astra International Director Gidion Hasan, and Toyota Tsusho Corporation Senior Executive Shigeru Harada.
In his speech, Minister Agus Gumiwang emphasized the factory’s role in boosting the national automotive industry. He encouraged ADM to continue developing models aligned with automotive trends, increase local supply chain participation, and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leading car manufacturer in Southeast Asia and the world.

High-Capacity Production for Ayla, Agya, and EVs
Spread across 26 hectares, KAP 2 is ADM’s sixth plant and has three primary manufacturing lines: body production, painting, and assembly. Having a production capacity of 140,000 units annually, the plant specializes in the manufacture of Low-Cost Green Cars (LCGCs) such as the Daihatsu Ayla and Toyota Agya for both domestic and export markets.
Future-Ready for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles
Beyond conventional fuel cars, KAP 2 is designed to support hybrid electrified vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). According to ADM Marketing Director Sri Agung Handayani, electrification is key to achieving carbon neutrality.
“This is our pledge in manufacturing to manufacture hybrid and electric cars,” he said during the launch of the factory.
Through high-end manufacturing technology, production of EVs is more efficient, minimizing the carbon footprint of the production process. The factory also adopts automation and digitalization, enhancing workplace safety, lowering the possibility of human errors, and creating a good ergonomic workplace for staff.
Commitment to Sustainability
ADM is not just production-oriented but also socially and environmentally responsible. The factory uses renewable energy sources such as solar panels and has a waste recycling mechanism to reduce pollution. These actions are in line with ADM’s vision of sustainable and responsible production.
