China is making strides in the future of transportation, preparing some of the world’s most advanced vehicles, including autonomous cars that can drive themselves. But that’s not all – China is also working on flying cars. One of the leading automotive manufacturers, Xpeng, is set to launch a flying car through its subsidiary, Xpeng AeroHT, and it’s already capturing the attention of the Chinese public.

Xpeng AeroHT: The Flying Car of the Future
Xpeng AeroHT’s flying car has generated significant excitement since its demo. According to Xpeng’s Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, more than 4,000 pre-orders have already been placed in China alone, just after the product demonstration.
He Xiaopeng shared his vision during the Xpeng Global Brand Night event in Hong Kong on April 15, 2025, stating, “We hope that our flying cars will not just be sold in China but will also reach customers worldwide.”
The Future of Flying Cars
Xpeng is of the view that flying cars are the future of transportation. Xiaopeng is positive that, within the next 20 years, flying cars will have a 20% market share of the car industry.
Xpeng AeroHT’s Vice President and Co-Founder, Wang Tan, said that they are set to make their flying cars ready by 2026. China would probably be the initial market that gets the product, but Xpeng plans for a worldwide expansion, targeting countries in the Middle East, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, among others. According to Wang Tan, the rest of the world is clamoring for innovative things such as flying cars.
Affordable and Innovative Technology
The cost of flying cars is estimated to be below $300,000 (about IDR 5 billion) and is lower than that of many luxury supercars, which may exceed IDR 10 billion. With this competitive pricing, flying cars will be within reach for more people as technology improves.

How the Xpeng Flying Car Works

When not in use the flying car is put away in a six wheeled ground vehicle. There is a which allows the easy separation of the flying car from the ground car which in turn allows it to take off. A push of a button is all it takes for the car to change from road to flight mode in under 5 minutes.
Once in the air the flying car is able to travel up to 20 km on a full charge which in turn flies for 15 to 20 minutes. Also the six wheeled car is also used to charge the flying vehicle which on a full charge reports to give 6 flights per charge.
A Vision for the Future
Xpeng’s flying car remains a few years off from taking to the skies, but the ambitions of the company are lofty. Wang Tan is looking forward to the technology developing to enable longer flights, and he believes that it can change the way people view transportation in the years ahead.
