GAC Aion, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially launched a domestic assembly plant in Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indomobil Group via their joint venture company PT National Assemblers (NA).
The factory utilizes the “Lighthouse Factory” concept, a new reality for manufacturing that encompasses high-tech, environmentally conscious, and digitally connected operations. The plant is established to deliver new business with essential supply of pure electric vehicles (EVs), previously known as battery electric vehicles or BEVs, to meet demand in Indonesia.
According to GAC, this smart manufacturing plant follows a flexible and efficient production model that meets global standards. The company believes this facility will help position Indonesia as a regional hub for EV production in Southeast Asia.

Strong Commitment to Indonesia
In the past year, GAC and Indomobil have introduced several electric vehicle models, including the Aion Y Plus, Aion V, and Hyptec HT. With the new plant now in operation, GAC is demonstrating its long-term commitment to the country with the slogan:
“Come to Indonesia, For Indonesia”, aligning with the company’s global “One GAC 2.0” strategy.
“Indonesia is a key market for GAC globally. Through PT National Assemblers, we want to help drive economic growth, enhance local manufacturing standards, and support sustainable mobility,” said Weigang, President of GAC International, during the plant inauguration.
Aion V: The First Locally Assembled Model

The Aion V, a modern electric SUV with modern technology, is the first of the models to roll off the new assembly plant. This milestone assists the Indonesian government in reducing carbon emissions in transportation and improving the usage and adoption of EVs.
“We are proud to support Indonesia’s automotive industry. This factory is a clear sign of our commitment to job creation, technology transfer, and sustainable growth,” added Haigang, GAC Aion’s senior executive.

High-Tech Production Capacity

The assembly lines follow the same smart manufacturing system used in GAC’s NEV Lighthouse Factories in China. Every process is 100% digitally connected, ensuring high efficiency and precise quality control.
The plant is flexible enough to assemble more than four vehicle types, including sedans, SUVs, and MPVs. A 7-seater model is also being prepared specifically for the Indonesian market.
One of the plant’s strengths is its ability to switch production lines in just 30 minutes, allowing for fast adaptation. Initially, the plant can produce 3 units per hour, with plans to increase to 5 units per hour as demand grows.

Focus on Domestic and Export Markets
At full capacity for the first phase, the factory plans to manufacture 20,000 vehicles per year initially, then ramp up production to 50,000 annually for both local and export sales afterwards.
In addition to producing fully electric vehicles, the factory will also manufacture hybrids, including HEVs and PHEVs, following GAC’s future product plans.
