To support this green transportation, PT SGMW Motor Indonesia (Wuling) has already partnered with PT Bali-Kerthi Development Fund Ventura (BDF) to accelerate the development of electric vehicles in Bali, Indonesia. One of the MoUs signed in connection with the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Conference took place at the Imperial Ballroom, Intercontinental Bali Resort, on Thursday, 12 September 2024. The partnership aims to encourage eco-friendly tourism as carbon emissions from possible emissions that would have been generated by the integration of electric vehicles in the region would decrease.
We hope this step will contribute positively to the tourism sector and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles

Cooperation That Drives Bali’s Green Tourism Vision
Shi Guoyong, President Director of Wuling Motors, asserted that the island of Bali is a very crucial regional market outside Java for electric vehicles. On the shift toward a sustainable tourism trend, the island was also mentioned. “Drive for a Better and Green Life,” shared by both parties, is what the MoU reiterates, as each party will work closely to turn Bali into the beacon of environmentally friendly transportation.
With the rise in domestic and international visitors embracing green practices, Bali would be an excellent destination to launch electric vehicles. Many visitors have adopted the habit of hiring EVs during their stay and thus contributing to the island’s green initiatives.
Impact on Eco-Friendly Tourism in Bali
One of the features of the BDF-Wuling partnership is the enhancement of tourism in Bali by promoting electric vehicles as a more sustainable mode of travel. According to Guoyong, much benefit would be derived by the tourism industry in Bali from implementing them among green zones, attracting many green-conscious tourists who would consider environmentally friendly travelling solutions.
This initiative further focuses on developing infrastructure that is supportive of electric vehicles, including charging stations, along with training programs for the users. Launching EVs in Bali will minimize emissions and noise pollution and take it to a more serene and sustainable tourist destination.
Commitment to green transportation by Wuling
Wuling Motors would make Bali an eco-friendly model in transportation, as indicated by PEVC. The partnership between BDF provides the opportunity to showcase electric cars during various eco-friendly events across the nation to build public awareness for the mass adoption of electric vehicles.
According to Wuling, the collaboration will also strengthen the long-term viability in Bali since it aims to make EVs more available not only for locals but also for tourist ventures. To make it even more attractive to buyers, Wuling resolved to present competitive financing schemes, which will also reduce entry levels in an electric vehicle market, hence making it easier for any individual or business to switch to greener transportation options
Consolidation of Bali’s EV Ecosystem
In the process, it would be an all-round effort involving not only infrastructure but education of consumers and market competitiveness as well. Wuling and BDF share a commitment to collaborate in various efforts geared at optimizing the adoption of EVs around the island.
In addition to the display of electric cars, the partnership also involves the sharing of data amongst the two partners. The data involved will highly be useful for the fine-tuning of the EV experience and ensuring that all cars are utilized to the point of full capacity and help in the further improvement of overall fleet management for electric vehicles in the region.
BDF CEO emphasized that this collaboration will have long-term impacts not only on the tourism industry here but also on the health of Bali’s environmental resources. At a time when more places and territories are adopting electric vehicles, a province like Bali always finds itself on the forefront through projects like this one
Challenges and Opportunities in EV Adoption
Despite this promising outlook, electric vehicle adoption in Bali, or for that matter, Indonesia as a whole comes up against numerous challenges. There is infrastructural infrastructure first of all, more specifically related to charging stations and maintenance facilities for these vehicles. However, Wuling’s partnership with BDF can address such problems through the structured approach towards creation of the framework needed.
Another issue would be the consumer perception-most of which pertains to the affordability and reliability of electric vehicles. The plans Wuling is proposing regarding financing would help in allaying these problems and opening affordable routes for both locals and businesses in making the shift toward electric vehicles.
As the government continues its support of green initiatives, and partnerships like the one between Wuling and BDF flourish, Bali will be one of the role models for the entire nation regarding the adoption of electric vehicles. The tourism sector would welcome this change because increasingly, sustainable transport options become a high priority for an eco-conscious traveler.
Key Components of the Partnership Include
- Promotion of electric vehicles use in Green Tourism areas
- Development of support infrastructure, such as charging stations for electric cars
- Capacity building regarding use and management of electric cars
- Sharing data to optimize and manage the electric car
- Attractive financing scheme for local market
