Pickup Segment Rules in Southeast Asia
Thailand is the world’s second-largest pickup market, only after the United States. Pickup trucks are in demand because of their versatility, high torque, and relatively cheap diesel fuel.
BYD Faces Competition from GWM
BYD isn’t the first Chinese company to jump into the pickup market. In 2024, GWM (Great Wall Motors) rolled out the Poer Sahar double cabin pickup, which also sports a hybrid engine that combines a 2.0-liter turbo engine and an electric motor.
The BYD Shark 6, with its beefy engine impressive range, and up-to-date features, looks set to give other trucks a run for their money in Indonesia’s expanding pickup scene.
