Global Launch and Market Importance
Jakarta – Jaecoo Indonesia officially introduced the J5 EV electric car at IIMS 2025. This is the first time the car has been introduced globally, highlighting Indonesia as not only Jaecoo’s main market but also an essential partner in the brand’s international expansion.
“The global launch of Jaecoo J5 EV in Indonesia is a real proof of our commitment to this market. We are very enthusiastic to contribute to the country’s transition to smarter and more sustainable electric mobility,” said Max Zhou, Country Director of Jaecoo Indonesia, during the event at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Thursday (20/2/2025).
Max highlighted that the J5 EV was created to address the increasing demand for electric vehicles in Indonesia, addressing daily mobility requirements.
Futuristic Design and Premium Features
The Jaecoo J5 EV boasts a modern and aggressive look with aggressive LED headlights, shut-off front grille, and sporty lines. The SUV combines the ruggedness of off-road ability and luxury urban styling, which appeals to Indonesian buyers as a wanted vehicle. The interior of the J5 EV is spacious, with a high-resolution digital dashboard and a huge touchscreen infotainment system that supports cutting-edge connectivity features, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Electric Powertrain and Performance
The Jaecoo J5 EV is equipped with a high-efficiency electric motor, which provides an estimated range of more than 500 km on a single charge. It is DC fast charging capable, which allows for an 80% charge in 30 minutes. The car has several driving modes, such as Eco, Normal, and Off-Road, to suit different driving conditions.
Ryan Ferdiean Tirto, Head of Product Jaecoo Indonesia, confirmed that the J5 EV will officially launch in Indonesia in 2025, though he did not disclose details about the exact timing and pricing.
“We will launch the J5 EV this year. For the price, we will inform you later. We will invite media friends when we launch the car. We will also explain the detailed specifications,” explained Ryan.
However, prospective consumers can already place an order with a booking fee of Rp 5 Juta to Rp 10 Juta.
For information, the Jaecoo J5 EV presented at IIMS 2025 still uses a left-hand drive. Ryan assured that the J5 EV sold to consumers in Indonesia will have a right-hand drive.
“This car will of course use right-hand drive like other cars generally sold in Indonesia,” concluded Ryan.

Competitive Positioning in Indonesia
As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow in Indonesia, the Jaecoo J5 EV will compete against established brands like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Atto 3, and Tesla Model Y. Jaecoo’s emphasis on off-road capability might prove to be a value proposition that sets it apart in the segment, attracting customers who are interested in both electrification and ruggedness. The company has also announced intentions to develop a robust aftersales network and charging infrastructure support to help boost customer confidence.
Alongside the J5 EV, Jaecoo unveiled the J7 model on IIMS 2025’s opening day. It is a hybrid Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) offered in three forms: J7 Super Hybrid System (SHS) with Plug-in Hybrid technology, J7 All-Wheel Drive (AWD), and Front-Wheel Drive (FWD). The J7 SHS is priced below Rp 599 Juta, the J7 AWD below Rp 549 Juta, and the J7 FWD below Rp 499 Juta.
