The Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) is working on new rules to improve the welfare of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers in Indonesia. One of the key proposals is to provide a Lebaran Holiday Bonus (BHR) every year.

Annual Bonus for Ojol Drivers
Last year, some ojol drivers received BHR for the first time. Even though the bonus amount was small and different between companies, it was seen as a positive step forward. Now, the government wants to make this benefit a regular annual bonus for all online driver partners.
Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, confirmed that the ministry is drafting regulations for this policy. He said the government is coordinating with the Ministry of State Secretariat to prepare specific rules.
“This has become a national concern. We are working on special regulations for online drivers,” he explained.
Not Just Bonuses—Also Protection
Ebenezer, often called Noel, emphasized that the new rules are not only about bonuses. The government is also focusing on better protection for online drivers, especially those who don’t yet have insurance coverage.
“We care deeply about our friends—ojol drivers, couriers, and online taxi drivers. They also deserve protection, not just bonuses,” said Noel.

Meeting with Ojol Platforms
On April 10, Noel held a meeting with major ojol and courier service platforms like Gojek, Grab, InDrive, Lalamove, Shopee, JNE, and Maxim to discuss these changes.
In the meeting, some surprising facts came up. For example, many drivers didn’t receive a BHR at all, and some only received around Rp 50,000. Companies said the bonus depended on criteria such as driver activity levels.

Conclusion
The Government is taking serious steps to support ojol drivers in Indonesia by planning an annual BHR and ensuring better protections and benefits. If implemented well, this move could improve the working conditions and appreciation for millions of online drivers across the country.
